Sony BMG — Production Guide

Before a site is tagged, the Web Applications group at SONY BMG IS&T must do the following:

Add any new domain names to the Webtrends system (contact: Marissa Osbourne)
Add the domain to the respective label's javascript file before stats will be successfully compiled (contact David Peris)

Please let David Peris or Roshan Shetty know if you have any questions and let us know once you've tagged a site so we can confirm everything is correct and stats are being compiled.

1. Creation of "wt" Directory

Make a directory called wt in the top level dir of each artist site/project you wish to tag.
This directory will contain two HTML files which will be pulled into your site's various pages as server-side includes.
Flash sites will reference this code as well, and they will be pulled into the main HTML page that contains the Flash site (generally, index.html).

2. Javascript Header File

Make a file in the wt directory called header.html which contains only the following code: (use respective code per label as per below)

4. Including the above files in HTML sites

Every HTML page in a site will have to be set up to reference the above files so that they will show up in the WebTrends analytics tool. For Flash sites, place this on any pages that contain your main Flash movie's navigation.

Place this code anywhere between <head> and </head> area of your page:

Place this code at the end of the page, just before the </body> tag.

ANY PAGE WITH THESE TAGS MUST HAVE 775 UNIX PERMISSIONS.

4. Referencing the above files in Flash sites

Since Flash sites do not contain multiple "pages" as HTML sites do, this method uses Actionscript to pass variables to the tracking Javascript from each navigation item in your site. So, rather than explicitly tagging a "news page" or a "discography page" as one would do in order to track traffic in HTML, we are tracking traffic from the actual nav clicks in Flash.

Tagging Detail

The following outlines tagging specifications for each of the items identified on the site.

For each of the variables, a value is passed to the WebTrends javascript:

domain: JessicaSimpson.com is used as reference only. Feel free to substitute any domain as needed as the host.
URL: is given in the format /pageName.flashPage. If the URL is external, only the relative pathname needs to be given, starting with a forward slash.
Title: is the title of the page
offSite: default value is null, meaning that the link is not off of the site being tagged. If the link is external, set this to 1
